It was frustrating to me because classes had been changed and cancelled for the past few weeks and my teaching lessons were falling behind, but the culture day was amazing.
Most of the Catholic schools in Samoan divide the students and teachers into groups of four, representing the colors red, green, blue and yellow.
The day started with a march. Each house marched and chanted with some traditional Samoan chants to present their uniforms to the judges.
The next event was "games" in which a representative from each house wove a basket, passed it back to another rep that husked the coconut and then passed it back to another rep that then scraped the coconut. The coconut was then passed to the final rep that squeezed the coconut to make coconut cream and then brought up to the judges to taste.
The rest of the day included the girls presenting fine mats, formally greeting and dancing.
