Worship with Fale

During training today, we had to go to a meeting called by the matai’s. They had to discuss the matter about some Peace Corps trainees that were walking around the village and getting harassed by some kids. Apparently the adults found out about it and did not want their village to get a bad name and were ashamed that we were getting treated that way. The Peace Corps has a very good reputation here in Samoa, and no one would want their name to be associated with anything bad happening to a Peace Corps Volunteer. The matai’s wanted to banish the family of the boy causing the most trouble out of the village, but we pleaded with them to let the family stay. They asked for forgiveness and we forgave them and the matter was settled.

After the meeting, Faleseu and I sat around and sang some worship songs – “Amazing Grace”, “Holy, Holy, Holy” and a couple others that we both knew. Samoans have wonderful musical talents, so it was such a pleasure to be able to sing with him. Many people sat around and listened to us. What a blessing that time was!
